Website Analysis

For my analysis I have chosen to use a website that I have been using frequently- my placement company's website:
http://www.bucksmusicgroup.com/

How is your chosen site structured?
The website is designed to give information to different people who are interested in finding out more about Bucks Music. This can be anyone from an unsigned band, wanting to send in some demos, to publishing companies wanting to check the database of artists we represent.
Because of this, the site is structured in a way that breaks down the different aspects in the company- about bucks/music and songs/composers and writers, and so on. The site is filled with hyperlinks, linking the user to different pages, specifically about their chosen topic. Many of the names mentioned in the writing are also hyperlinked, taking you to a page where you can buy that writers music/read their biography and so on. It is very easy to be interactive on the website, as every page has contact details ('send us a message') (again, hyperlinked to a page where you can fill in a form with general queries). This website is designed to allow us to flit from page to page, with simple nagivation links at the top, making it easy to return to the home page. It's also noteworthy to mention the 'bucks music' logo on every page- enabling the user to recognise
The site contains info about new arrivals/new signings, as well as a 'shop' where you can buy a range of music. The site also links to 'sister companies' such as BDI music and Powis music- linking all three sites together.

What is it about on a cultural level?
The website is primarily for consumerism. The website isn't something that you would come across and 'browse', like you would on youtube etc. It's a specific site designed for specific needs- it is very business based, and contains information that you wouldn't necesserily be interested in, or understand, if you are not involved some way in Bucks Music. However, culturally it is suitable for any genre of music, there is not one specific genre, or age range, there are some 'mainstream' artists, and some more niche ones. Furthermore, it is not limited to, say for instance 'TV'. It attracts interest from TV companies, Radio companies, Film companies etc. The whole website is based on music, and buying that music.

What is the appeal for you as a user?
For a user, the appeal is it's easily accessable links to all areas of the website. It provides all the information you need if you want to be involved with Bucks Music. It has information about all the artists, contact information, information about the company etc. It allows bands to send in demos of their music, which is appealing as it is a simple and easy process (clicking on one link). It is easy to nagivate, and the home page is well set out, and does not have too much information. The home page also contains a lot of colour which makes the website looks more interesting and appealing.
I also like the fact that it's so well hyperlinked. There isn't one name that is mentioned that hasn't been linked to their own page, and it's easy to find sister companies, as well as some of Bucks Music's other websites, such as 'sync links', which allows a user to listen to clips of songs.
This variety of links makes the website much more informative, and very easy to navigate. Although I am not really interested about the information on the website, the people that do go on it will be there to look for something specific (like I mentioned earlier, it isn't the sort of site you 'browse', it is first and foremost a business website). The website is designed for just this- easy navagation with many links to other pages, for a user to find out exactly what they need (and failing that, there's always a link to send a message).
