Week 8- Article 5

Kern, A. (2007), “Get A (second) life”, B&T Weekly, Vol. 57 (issue 2606), Page 12, http://web.ebscohost.com/ehost/pdf?vid=4&hid=4&sid=2690c59f-81c9-4cbc-9176-4d7b9faacb25%40sessionmgr3 [accessed 13/3/09]

This article is arguing that being a 'digital immigrant' is no excuse to avoid the advancement of technology within business.
My issue with this article is that the author has no statistics but back up his claims that the marketing world will struggle if people don't learn to use new technologies. The author goes as far as to state that 'many of the market's more senior consultants may struggle to understand these new media formats, falling back into the comfortable strategies of old because they lack a tech-savvy approach and heritage of the new media age.'
This statement doesn't seem to generalise that older members of the society simply refuse to use more modern technology, and that this is affecting their business. This argument does not seem valid, particularly with no statistics, and it is also generalising the 'technophobic' image of an older generation.

  1. President Obama notwithstanding, do you think a company CEO will change the way s/he communicates to fit with his/her digital native employees? Or do you think that the employees have to be 'multilingual'?
